Yat Li教授在香港大学分别于1999年和2002年获得理学学士学位和化学博士学位。在Wing-Tak Wong教授实验室就读时,他研究了金属团簇配位化学及其催化应用。于2003年获得裘槎基金会博士后奖学金,加入哈佛大学的Charles M. Lieber教授课题组从事III族氮化物纳米线和纳米线异质结构的光学和电子性质的研究。Yat Li于2007年加入加州大学圣克鲁斯分校担任助理教授,于2013年晋升为终身教授,于2018年晋升为正教授。他的研究集中于功能材料的合理设计,制造和组装及其化学和物理特性,尤其是在催化,能量转换和能量存储中的应用。他至今已在学术期刊发表了140多篇论文,被引用了29000次,H指数为77。自2017年以来,Yat Li教授每年都被Clarivate Analytics(Web of Science)评选为“高被引科学家”,他的研究成果获得了同行的广泛认可。
